This is where the obsession with lamps started. So much to say about this piece. The most striking element, and what drove the artist to begin this endeavor is the ‘hairpin” Edison bulb, which fits perfectly through the top of the transmission hat. The end poking out emulating a vintage percolater, or perhaps a nod to Robby the Robot and his time on the Forbidden Planet. The warm glow of the bulb passing through the metal shade creates patterns and silhouettes that will warm any room. The base is based on a differential unit, with all 4 spider gears working flawlessly in conjunction. If one is pressed, all 4 spin. Another element our artist prefers to incorporate is a cam shaft. The ole bump-stick, as its called in some circles. We find a section of a 350ci V8 Chevy cam as the riser/ neck of piece number 1. The rings on the shade are from a late model Ford Transmission.
This lamp also was the launching point for the “Fitted Handmade Crate” concept. As with every piece thus far, included in the purchase of the lamp is a hand made wooden crate for storage or display. This crate is hand stained, numbered, outfitted with upholstery, and hand sewn leather handles. The crate could easily be considered a work of art itself.
