Piece Number 3, while being a one of a kind piece, borrows elements from its predecessors. The base of the lamp is created from a planetary gear set out of a Ford transmission, The small planetary gears spin with the freedom of a unhindered skateboard wheel, a welcome feature for anyone who fidgets. The transmission hat also hails from the same manufacturer, it’s unique triangular openings casting beautiful silhouettes from the 7″ Edison bulb at its core. The “hat” is adorned with a “hat ring” made of roller chain. Once again the artist utilized a V8 camshaft as the column for this piece.
As with every piece thus far, included in the purchase of the lamp is a hand made wooden crate for storage or display. This crate is hand stained, numbered, outfitted with upholstery, and hand sewn leather handles. The crate could easily be considered a work of art itself.
