Piece #11

#11

Status: Sold

Piece Number 11’s function deviates entirely from its illuminating brothers. A commissioned piece for a loved one, the theme was to revolve around vintage Volkswagens, and be functional as well as beautiful.

While it does not plug in or create light, all deviation from previous pieces ends there.

Items that have been up cycled for this piece consist of a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle Speedometer, Bearing Race, Bearing, Spotlight Cup, Timing chain, and a Spider gear.

The Spotlight cup will not only spin freely on the bearing its mounted to, but will also pivot roughly 15 degrees to achieve the optimal viewing angle and adjust for glare.
Great efforts were taken to modify the speedo to accept the clock movement, as well as making the movement accessible for servicing and adjustments.

One unique detail the casual passerby will likely overlook is the Odometer reading. Our artist cleverly ‘rolled back’ the odometer to read out the digits that coincide with the customers wedding anniversary. A thoughtful touch that we’re happy to report ‘completely blew away’ the recipient of this one of a kind gift.

The crate for Piece number 11 is quite small, as is the piece. Despite its size, it received the full complement of details found on every crate in the series. One unique touch that is a newly available feature is the detachable hinge. As seen in the photos, this allows the recipient to remove the door to more easily utilize the crate for storage or display.
