Metal Sculpture Artist, Robin Moody , is making sparks fly, forging mixed-media works of art from his home studio in Mansfield, Texas. Robin’s primary media is up-cycled metal sculpture, and includes woodwork and textiles. The source of his inspirations steer from a deeply rooted affinity for automobiles and automotive design. Robin’s latest line is a numbered series of industrial lamps, a culmination of his life experiences. In addition he creates one-off automotive trophies, wall art, and other man-cave fodder.
Born in 1977, in Belleville, Illinois, Robin’s passions well rooted in childhood, noting: “My mom says I was born with a car in my hand.” Robin’s family moved to Texas when he was still a boy; and, each step continued to drive Robin toward manifestation of his creative passions. As a result, he’s developed a full-throttle energy, fixed with the intrinsic desire to build with his own bare hands.
In Texas, Robin achieved an Associates Degree in Laser Electro-Optics. He later returned to school to pursue additional education, this time to feed the flame of his passions: welding, fabrication, and restoration. Subsequently, Robin secured a position at an auto restoration shop. The experience added to his skill-set, honing his keen eye for design, and a penchant for unwavering craftsmanship
Robin found love in Texas too, and married his wife, Wendy. The couple has two children, and their family is collectively geared towards all things automotive. In 2009, Robin’s weekends ‘tinkering’ ultimately actualized a 1971 Toyota Hilux pick-up, which was a featured vehicle at the annual, world-famous, SEMA show, as well as garnering a six-page article in the December 2010 publication of Minitruckin Magazine. Robin stated “The Hilux is one of my proudest personal achievements.” And, he still owns it today!
In addition to fulfilling a career as a full-time executive and his dedication to family, Robin regularly rummages for the raw scrap material to build his creations. While continuing to turn his hands primarily to mechanical and automotive parts, his mind-set centers on reclaiming parts ultimately destined for scrap; materials who’s fate would be no more glorious than to be melted and reformed as rebar, had he not rescued them. Robin scours the dirtiest and dustiest places across North Texas in search of the unique. Parts which many have never seen or considered. Our artist finds closure knowing these parts and pieces have already completed the important duty they were designed to do: heavy lifting, hauling, moving. Now passed over due to wear or breakage, Robin, in his cumulative experience, identifies top-gear materials through a sea of rusty metal, finding them beautiful still, all on their own, and reclaims them to fulfill a new artistic realization. Taking great measure to match parts with findings, Robin affords the parts new life, creating a finished product that has an inherent beauty, greater than the sum of its parts.
RAM Studio designs are lighting up lives through the sincere glow he naturally instills in each work. Linger in the light of RAM’s visual art pieces and reflect on the effects of the artist’s principal goal, which is: To share with the world the absolute best he has to offer! Now that is a dazzling ray of light!
